Frédéric Pinard

Université de Montréal

Frédéric Pinard is a lawyer and currently a Master's student in philosophy at Université de Montréal, having also completed training in business administration (MBA).

His current work focuses on AI (studied from a philosophical and legal perspective), governance and international law, weaving together legal analysis, philosophy and technological innovation. He currently assists few professors (Université de Montréal and Université de Sherbrooke) in philosophy, philosophy of law and international law and technology, as a research assistant, and explores more specifically issues related to the potential attribution of rights to robotic agents (as opposed to AI systems in general), questioning their agency (consciousness and real autonomy) and legal status (both objects and subjects of law).
Also with experience as a lawyer on major transactional projects (for one of the world's largest pension funds) and digital transformation projects, Frédéric works as a professional providing strategic legal perspectives on cyberjustice, technology, data management and AI, with a focus on optimizing judicial processes and access to justice.
