Appointment of Prof. Hannes Westermann and Dr. Thibault Biscahie as Fellows of the Cyberjustice Laboratory
The Cyberjustice Laboratory is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Fellows, Professor Hannes Westermann and Dr. Thibault Biscahie, who are joining our dynamic and innovative research community.
Prof. Hannes westermann
Hannes Westermann is Assistant Professor of Law and Artificial Intelligence at Maastricht University and the Maastricht Law and Tech Lab. His research focuses on the use of AI and generative AI to improve access to justice. He obtained his PhD from the Université de Montréal and the Cyberjustice Laboratory, where he developed JusticeBot, an innovative online platform that provides legal information to laypeople using AI. The platform has been used over 40,000 times. He has presented his research findings at international conferences and was awarded the “Best Paper Award” at JURIX 2020 and 2023. His work has also been featured in the Financial Times and Context.news.
dr. thibault biscahie
Thibault Biscahie is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre de recherche en droit public (CRDP) in the Law Faculty at Université de Montréal. He obtained a PhD in Political Science at York University (Toronto) in 2022. Prior to this he has been affiliated with Sciences Po Lille, Université du Québec à Montréal and Université Aix-Marseille and taught courses in Political Science, Political Economy, Global History and International Humanitarian Law at Université de Montréal, the University of Toronto and York University. His research focuses on French and European politics, the history and sociology of international relations, and the political economy of neoliberalism. He has presented his research in conferences throughout Europe and North America, his writing has appeared in several academic and non-academic publications and he is a regular contributor to QG, le média libre.
By joining the Cyberjustice Laboratory as Fellows, Prof. Westermann and Dr. Biscahie will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to conduct research and technological innovation projects. Their expertise and unique perspectives will help strengthen our efforts to meet the contemporary challenges of cyberjustice.
