The Cyberjustice Laboratory, host of the prestigious
International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law (ICAIL) 2019 – The Cyberjustice Laboratory
Montreal, June 3rd - From June 17th to the 21st, 2019, the Cyberjustice Laboratory will be hosting in Montreal, the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law (ICAIL) 2019, organized in partnership with the International Association for Artificial Intelligence and Law (IAAIL), the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (ACM SIGAI). The event will be hosted at the University of Montréal, 3200 Jean Brillant street where 400 guests are expected.
Since its first conference in 1987, ICAIL has become the largest international conference dedicated to artificial intelligence and law. This prestigious conference brings together leading international experts in the field of law and AI, including researchers, government and public sector representatives, lawyers, software developers, and people working in the AI industry.
Participants who take part in the intensive week will discover the latest innovations in the field through workshops and tutorial sessions (from the 17th to the 21st), led by researchers at the forefront of AI and law — such as Kevin Ashley, computer modeling expert, Karl Branting, AI and natural language engineer and Katie Atkinson, computational models of argument expert. It will also be possible to discuss with them at the event’s opening reception (on the 17th) or at the banquet (on the 19th).
ICAIL 2019 is an incredible opportunity to explore advances in the field of legal AI as it will host some of the most lauded AI researchers such as Yoshua Bengio, Turing price winner of 2018. To complement the academic focus of the conference, attendees won’t want to the set of sessions on the 18th (Tuesday) where partners of the event, Microsoft, Thomson Reuters, and Lexum, will offer a window into new technological tools, or tech in-progress.

ICAIL 2019 is a landmark event heralding the significance of the work of the Cyberjustice Laboratory in the scientific community and particularly with respect to the fields of AI and access to justice, most notably involving the Laboratory’s research project Autonomy Through Cyberjustice Technologies (ACT Project), which seeks to centre the use of artificial intelligence by legal actors in order to improve the prevention and resolution of legal conflict in our societies.
